Crash Involving DUI Driver and Deputy in Manatee County

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office has recently unveiled video footage depicting a serious collision involving one of its deputies and a driver suspected of driving under the influence.

The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday evening, just outside the operation center of Manatee County.

Surveillance footage captures a pickup truck veering into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with the deputy’s vehicle.

The impact was so severe that it overturned the deputy’s car. Fortunately, he was promptly transported to a local hospital, where he received treatment for minor injuries.

Identified as William Thomas, 47, the driver has been charged with DUI and causing damage to property or injury to another person. Like the deputy, Thomas was also taken to a nearby hospital for his injuries.
