BRADENTON, Fla. — The Bradenton Police Department (BPD) announced the arrests of three suspects linked to the tragic murder of 15-year-old Kayvon Dunbar.
On August 25, BPD officers responded to a shooting incident in the 400 block of 11th Ave. E., where they discovered Dunbar suffering from a gunshot wound. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The ensuing investigation led law enforcement to apprehend three suspects, aged 15, 17, and 18. Detectives uncovered that all four individuals, including Dunbar, were together at the location during the incident.
It was revealed that the group had devised a plan to rob one of their drug dealers by inviting him to their location. According to police reports, one of the suspects attempted to divert the dealer’s attention while the others, concealed in masks, approached the vehicle.
BPD reported that two suspects were armed. In an act of self-defense, the dealer fired towards the suspects, prompting one of them to return fire. As a result of this attempted armed robbery, Dunbar was killed, leading to felony murder charges against the other three suspects.
The State Attorney’s Office will decide whether to pursue charges as adults for the suspects involved.
