Following reports from a beachgoing family about a man exposing himself near Lido Key, Sarasota police arrested a 29-year-old city resident on multiple charges, including two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior involving a victim under 18 and four counts of indecent exposure.
David Mensch, 29, was arrested and booked on several charges.
According to a news release from the Sarasota Police Department, a man reported to 911 on the afternoon of August 29 that an individual on Lido Beach had exposed himself to children in his family. Investigating officers spoke with family members and, through various investigative techniques, identified a potential suspect. Surveillance from a license-plate camera indicated a car associated with the suspect left the area shortly after the report.
The next day, officers patrolling the beach spotted the suspect and detained him.
David Mensch was subsequently arrested and booked into the Sarasota County Jail.
Witness statements indicated that there was no possibility the exposure was accidental, as per arrest documents. The police are actively seeking additional witnesses from Lido Beach that afternoon to identify any other possible victims.
