Sarasota County is offering residents the chance to prepare for potential flooding and storm impacts with free sandbag operations at three designated locations. Each self-service station will be stocked with empty bags and sand at no cost to residents.
The sandbag distribution will take place on June 14, July 19, and August 10, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The specific locations for these operations include:
- Ed Smith Stadium, 2700 12th St., Sarasota.
- Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota.
- South County Fleet, 4571 SR 776/Englewood Road, Venice.
These monthly sessions are designed to enhance the county’s ongoing sandbag operations that are activated before a storm arrives, allowing residents ample time to safeguard their homes.
Participating residents are expected to fill and load their own sandbags. However, they are advised to bring their own shovels and gloves. For those without shovels, a limited number will be available on-site. Each vehicle will be allocated 10 empty sandbags to fill.
In related news, Manatee County has also announced the opening of seven permanent locations for free sandbags to help residents prepare for storm season.
