Ben Quartermaine, the director of the newly established Stormwater Department, provided an update on the department’s current activities and discussed a proposed stormwater rate increase slated for 2026.
During a recent morning workshop, residents had the opportunity to express their concerns regarding past flooding incidents and future risk.
Sarasota County resident Kristy Molyneaux shared her experience, stating that this was one of the most productive sessions she’s attended in recent times.
“My house flooded three times with all the storms last year,” Molyneaux recounted. “I have been attending all the stormwater workshops, and I have to say this is the first one where I actually felt it was a genuine workshop with valuable information being shared. I am very pleased and look forward to the initiatives the new stormwater department will implement,” she added.
Quartermaine emphasized his commitment to community transparency and expressed enthusiasm for organizing more workshops throughout Sarasota County.
