BRADENTON, Fla. — The Bradenton Police Department has reported a troubling rise in car break-ins across the city.

What You Need To Know

  • There have been 259 car break-ins throughout Bradenton this year, according to the police department.
  • Police report that 44 guns have been stolen from vehicles, significantly up from 23 last year.
  • Authorities recommend that residents keep car doors locked, remove valuables, and park in well-lit areas.

This year alone, 259 car break-ins have been documented within the city limits. A particularly alarming trend is the theft of firearms, with 44 guns reported stolen from vehicles between January and November, a notable increase from 23 last year.

In response to this spike in crime, Bradenton Police have increased patrols in areas known for car thefts. Residents are feeling the impact, as illustrated by the experience of local resident Towanda Seymour, who reported that thieves used a brick to shatter the window of her car.

“I just think this area is a high crime area,” Seymour noted. “Even if you have cameras, criminals find ways to evade them. I believe they came around the back of my property and used a garbage bag to cover the lockbox.”

To combat this issue, police are urging residents to take preventive measures: ensuring car doors are locked, removing all valuables from sight, and choosing well-lit parking spots.
