Student teams are required to conduct a financial analysis, propose a recommended solution, and create an executive summary for board review, HAMA stated in an announcement.

“Every year, the education committee eagerly anticipates the innovative solutions that the upcoming generation of hotel asset managers presents, leveraging their own experiences to tackle challenges in ways that uncover new opportunities,” remarked Adam Tegge, chair of the HAMA Education Committee. “This competition proves that the future of hotel asset management is quite promising.”

The two top teams will be awarded a $5,000 prize each and will receive an invitation to the spring 2026 HAMA conference in Washington, D.C., with travel and accommodation expenses covered by HAMA.

A panel of twenty industry executives from the HAMA education committee will assess submissions based on the quality of the presentations, as stated. HAMA mentors will volunteer from September to November, aiding teams in obtaining feedback and further information. Schools will finalize their selections by January 15, with graduate and undergraduate teams being evaluated separately.

The competition has tackled topics related to operating and owning hospitality assets, and HAMA consulted with university professors to refine the format to address situations students may face post-graduation, according to the announcement.

This year’s participating institutions include the University of Denver, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Boston University, Florida International University, Michigan State University, Columbia University, Morgan State University, Howard University, New York University, and Penn State University.

In 2024, HAMA recognized Penn State and Boston University as winners of its 19th Annual Student Case Competition.
