PALMETTO, Fla. — In a tragic incident, the Palmetto Police Department (PPD) has arrested a man following the alleged shooting and killing of his girlfriend. The incident took place on Sunday night when officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1400 block of 12th St. W.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with witnesses who directed them to a nearby driveway where they discovered a 30-year-old woman dead, having suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
The witnesses revealed that earlier in the evening, the victim had contacted them, expressing a desire to be picked up due to her boyfriend being armed and behaving aggressively. When the witnesses arrived in Palmetto to collect her, they were confronted by her boyfriend, 25-year-old Cilas Roblero Morales.
In a shocking turn, Morales allegedly fired multiple shots at both the witnesses and the victim, hitting the latter. Terrified, the witnesses fled the scene.
Following the altercation, Morales also fled the area but was later apprehended hiding in the Manatee County Fairgrounds. Officers also recovered the suspected murder weapon nearby.
Morales is now in custody at the Manatee County Jail, facing serious charges, including one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
