The first robbery occurred around 3:30 a.m. in Venice, where investigators reported that the suspect was dressed in a black hoodie, wearing glasses and gloves.
About 30 minutes later, a second robbery took place in North Port.
Authorities also believe that these incidents may not be limited to just these two convenience stores. “Clearly this is a violent crime, so it’s getting a lot of attention,” remarked Venice Police Capt. Eric Hill.
Jason Frank, the chief of staff for the North Port Police Department, expressed concerns about the potential consequences for the suspect, stating, “This robbery might not prove worthwhile.”
He emphasized the irrationality of the situation: “What stands out to me is how stupid it is. I mean, people are looking at significant jail time and getting $100-$200 out of these places. It’s just stupid.”
“They appear to be connected,” Frank added. “It looks like the same individuals from the surveillance. We believe that there are actually more locations in and around the region.”
Police are urging anyone with information regarding these crimes to reach out to either the North Port Police Department or the Venice Police Department.
