SARASOTA, Fla. – Tragically, the Sarasota mother who was critically injured in a hit-and-run that claimed the lives of her two young children in February has passed away. Family and friends confirmed this devastating news to FOX 13 on Friday.
The crash
Details of the incident:
The hit-and-run occurred on the night of February 10, 2025, on North Washington Blvd. near 7th St., as reported by the Sarasota Police Department.
Authorities revealed that a Lexus vehicle struck Taeler Bennett, 29, and her two sons: 2-year-old Rio and 5-month-old Kiylan.

Both children tragically lost their lives at the scene, while their mother was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

On Friday morning, it was confirmed by Bennett’s family that she succumbed to her injuries.
Suspected driver’s arrest
The driver responsible for the hit-and-run, identified as June Fenton, 72, was arrested by police in early March following the incident, as per the Sarasota Police Department’s announcement.
Fenton is currently facing charges including two counts of leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in fatalities and one count for leaving the scene of a crash resulting in serious injury.
What lies ahead:
The State Attorney’s Office will determine whether to upgrade the charges against Fenton.
