Marilyn Sue Doherty, born on October 2, 1935, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, passed away on August 7, 2025, in Sarasota, Florida. She was known for her career as a school photographer with National School Studios, retiring in 1987. In 1991, she relocated to Nokomis from Manasquan, New Jersey, where she enjoyed her later years.
Marilyn is survived by her two sons, Thomas Doherty of Nokomis and Jay Doherty of Maui, Hawaii, along with two daughters, Kathleen West from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and Susan Burke of Morrisville, Pennsylvania. She also cherished her family, leaving behind nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Doherty; her son, Patrick Doherty; her father, Benton H. Marder; her mother, Dorotha Smalenbach; her sister, Sally Colwell; and her brothers, Benton Marder and John Michael (JM) Andersen.
