Manatee County to Acquire New Administrative Facility

Manatee County is setting its sights on a strategic opportunity to enhance its public services by purchasing a new building for various departments. This initiative encompasses a range of departments, including property management, development services, public works, and human resources. The plan aims to free up space in existing facilities for essential services such as EMS and law enforcement, along with housing services.

The total expense for acquiring and remodeling the new property will amount to just under $35 million. Despite the significant outlay, Commissioner George Kruse asserts that this approach is far more economical than options pursued by neighboring counties. He explains, “We’re buying this at a fraction of replacement costs. This is a benefit to the taxpayers to buy something so cheap.”

Kruse further elaborates on the market dynamics, noting the current office market is experiencing a downturn due to factors like the rise of remote work, resulting in a reduced demand for office space. This unique market scenario offers the county a valuable opportunity, which many other municipalities are also capitalizing on.

Importantly, the county will retain ownership of its existing administration building, and commission meetings will continue to take place in downtown Bradenton. Several offices within the current building are earmarked for use by the State Attorney’s Office, ensuring continued support for legal services.
