MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — The Manatee County School Board has announced the selection of four semi-finalists to advance in the pursuit of finding the district’s next superintendent.
Dr. Jason Wysong, the former Superintendent of Manatee County Schools, was terminated during a special meeting held by the school board in May.
The candidates slated to replace him are:
- Dr. Laurie Breslin, Executive Director of Student Support & Family Engagement, School District of Manatee County
- David W. Adams, Director of School Leadership and Improvement, Montgomery County Public Schools (Maryland)
- Dr. Misty Mathis, Executive Director of Curriculum, Nassau County School District
- Luis B. Solano, Deputy Superintendent, Detroit Public Schools Community District
The board indicates that the next step involves conducting final background checks for each semi-finalist, as well as launching another community feedback survey.
Finalists are expected to be selected during the board’s meeting on August 12. Interviews with the finalists are scheduled for August 18–19, with community members invited to watch these interviews and attend a community engagement event on August 19.
After these interviews, each finalist will engage in a one-on-one interview with board members. The board aims to select the new superintendent during the meeting on August 26, with a final contract approval set for September 9.

Juan Carlos Porras (R-Miami), a South Florida lawmaker, suggests it might be time to consider eliminating homeowners associations entirely as more Floridians express concerns over rising fees, expensive lawsuits, and arrests linked to HOA disputes.
