Manatee County allocates funds for park enhancements and new development.

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — The Manatee County commissioners recently approved a significant investment of $24 million in the county’s parks, marking an important step in enhancing local recreational opportunities.

Currently, crews are busy at work across various parks in Manatee County, with Molly White, the director of sports and leisure services, leading the charge. “Right now we’re at Hidden Harbor Park, which is directly across from the Fort Hamer boat ramp,” White stated, adding that this park is still under construction but is expected to open this fall.

Hidden Harbor Park will feature a pump track, a playground, three volleyball courts, an educational center, and a pavilion. White emphasized the park’s role in accommodating the diverse needs of families, both new residents and long-time locals: “It’s crucial that families have a place to play as our community continues to grow.”

The past three years have seen park investment prioritized by local officials, a trend reaffirmed during the Board of County Commissioners’ recent budget meeting. “The Board has approved over $24 million in capital improvements for parks over the next five years,” White affirmed, highlighting the commitment to enhancing community facilities.

Currently, approximately ten parks in the county are either under construction, in design, or nearing completion. The selection of park locations is informed by population growth trends, particularly in the northern and eastern areas of the county. “Our population has grown immensely, and having parks provides free, accessible recreational options for children,” White explained.

As she continues to develop Manatee County’s parks, White understands that each new feature represents a valuable investment for both residents and visitors alike. The county anticipates completing the ongoing improvements to all parks within the next two years.
