Betsy Plante, founder of The Blessing Bags Project, believes every day is a gift. For her, the greatest gift is offering help to those in need.
“God placed this passion in my heart to care for those whom others overlook, and that’s how it all began,” she shared.
Fifteen years ago, she co-founded her nonprofit.
“We provide essential needs to the homeless and underprivileged. We assist individuals in recovery and those reintegrating from prison,” she explained.
Throughout her journey, she has supported the community, raising over $150,000 following last year’s hurricanes.
Recently, her efforts extended beyond Manatee County as she began a fundraiser to aid flood victims in Texas.
“I was heartbroken. I felt numb,” she expressed.
Through her Facebook page and her nonprofit’s website, individuals can contribute directly by clicking the donate button. All proceeds are directed to Mercy Chefs, a faith-based organization.
“They utilize those funds to provide necessary supplies and food,” she mentioned. “Mercy Chefs focuses on feeding families and also supports first responders.”
She noted that monetary donations are a quicker method of assistance compared to gathering physical supplies.
To date, the fundraiser has generated over $5,000.
“And we plan to keep going,” she affirmed.
