BRADENTON, Fla. — Manatee County commissioners have selected five individuals to join its newly established government efficiency liaison committee.
This committee will liaise with the state DOGE initiative and address any requests that may arise during an audit.

Earlier this month, Gov. Ron DeSantis revealed that Manatee County, along with Orange County, Broward County, and the city of Gainesville, would undergo an audit. DeSantis attributed this to rising spending and property taxes.
In Orange County, Commissioner Mayra Uribe is coordinating to supply the documentation requested by the state, which consists of thousands of pages of records from the past five years.
She believes having an additional set of eyes can be beneficial.
“I don’t see this as a problem. I think it aligns with what we should be doing,” Uribe stated. “If our financial management has been sound, that will be evident. And if any issues arise, they will also be revealed.”
According to Spectrum Bay News 9’s partners at the Tampa Bay Times, the state DOGE Task Force has reached out to St. Pete, Clearwater, Tampa, Pinellas, and Hillsborough counties, requesting data related to their revenues and expenditures.
Most municipalities reported that they have provided details about their spending.
