BRADENTON, Fla. — The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is currently investigating a tragic incident involving a shooting that resulted in the death of 76-year-old Andrew Douglas.
On July 29, deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 12300 block of Baypointe Terrace in Bradenton shortly before noon. Upon arrival, they discovered 35-year-old Ian Douglas attempting to provide aid to his father, who had been shot once in the neck. Despite efforts by emergency personnel to revive Andrew, he was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
According to the report, Ian explained to deputies that he was demonstrating his handgun to his father when the weapon accidentally discharged.
Following a thorough investigation, MCSO detectives charged Ian Douglas with Manslaughter by culpable negligence and subsequently booked him into jail.
The investigation remains active.
“You know, it might just be time we take a look if HOAs are really even necessary.
Maybe we should just do away with homeowner associations as a whole.”
South Florida lawmaker Rep. Juan Carlos Porras (R-Miami) has stated that the rising complaints from Floridians regarding escalating fees, expensive lawsuits, and even arrests linked to HOA disputes may warrant a reevaluation of homeowner associations. He mentioned this week that he is contemplating introducing legislation in the next session that would aim to abolish HOAs statewide.
