Press Release 25-044 – August 13, 2025
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is currently looking into a deputy-involved shooting that took place at 208 Golf Club Lane, Venice.
At 10:58 a.m., SCSO deputies from the Fugitive Apprehension Unit and patrol units responded to serve an active warrant. Upon their arrival, deputies confirmed that the individual was inside the residence and issued verbal commands for him to exit. When he did not comply, deputies forcibly entered the home. Inside, the subject armed himself with a firearm. Deputies retreated to the backyard and requested assistance from SWAT and the Hostage Negotiation Team. Moments later, the individual emerged from the residence with the firearm. Deputies commanded him to drop the weapon, but when he failed to do so, a deputy deployed a Taser, which did not incapacitate the subject. The individual then pointed his firearm at the deputies, leaving them with no choice but to use deadly force.
Deputies initiated life-saving efforts until the Sarasota County Fire Department (SCFD) arrived on scene. SCFD continued these measures until the subject was pronounced deceased at the location.
The deceased has been identified as Anthony Bottoni, DOB 5/6/93, residing at 208 Golf Club Lane, Venice. Next of kin have been notified. There were no additional injuries reported. This investigation is ongoing.
