BRADENTON, Fla. — A Florida woman, identified as Barb, discovered she was over $100,000 richer after contacting the Bradenton Police Department (BPD) with suspicions of a scam.
Barb reached out to a detective after receiving multiple offers from law firms and private investigators who claimed they could help her secure money she thought she wasn’t owed. These companies targeted her due to her name appearing in the unclaimed property records of the Florida Department of Financial Services.
Upon investigation, the BPD found that Barb had over $100,000 in stock dividends from a company she worked for over 30 years ago. The detective guided her through the necessary paperwork, resulting in a check being issued for $108,000.
