BRADENTON, FL — A tense standoff in Bradenton culminated in tragedy late Wednesday night, as a deputy fatally shot an armed suspect after a lengthy standoff lasting more than three hours, according to a news release from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began around 6 p.m. when deputies arrived at a residence in the 800 block of 63rd Avenue W. to execute a search warrant connected to an ongoing armed robbery investigation. Upon their arrival, the suspect opened fire on the deputies, prompting the Sheriff’s Office to activate its SWAT team.

During the standoff, efforts were made to negotiate with the barricaded suspect, who repeatedly fired additional shots at deputies. In response, members of the SWAT team returned fire, which ultimately resulted in the suspect being fatally wounded. The sheriff’s office has stated that the name of the suspect will be disclosed following the notification of his next of kin.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the deputies during this dangerous confrontation, as confirmed by the agency.
