Incident Report: Child Rescued Following Water Main Break
SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. – A small child playing near a culvert in Sarasota was pulled into a drainage system during a water main break on Sunday evening.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the break occurred just after 6 p.m. at 5433 Bahia Vista St.
The child was located approximately 100 yards west on Bahia Vista Street after being carried through the drain.
The Sarasota County Fire Department quickly responded, and the child was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, although the child’s condition remains unknown.
In the wake of this incident, Bahia Vista Street will be closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic between Honore Avenue and Arcadia Avenue until further notice.
Public Works is currently addressing the water main break, and motorists are encouraged to find an alternate route.
