YATES COUNTY, NY — After months of evading capture, a fugitive from the Sarasota area has been arrested in upstate New York, as reported by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office on their Facebook page.
Jacques Gentis, 21, was apprehended with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service and other law enforcement agencies. He is currently held at Yates County Jail and will soon be extradited back to Florida.
Gentis had been on the run since January 24, when Sarasota County deputies attempted to execute an arrest warrant. His flight initiated a protracted pursuit that included over 10 search warrants, 25 subpoenas, and numerous tips submitted via Crime Stoppers, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office had multiple outstanding warrants for Gentis, specifically four for armed burglary and one for discharging a missile into a structure. Additionally, there was one outstanding warrant in Charlotte County.
Prior to his capture on August 28, the SCSO Fugitive Apprehension Unit tracked Gentis to New York following a vehicle sighting. He was arrested without any incident.
