Bradenton Police Department Commences Construction on New Headquarters

Date:

[ad_1]

The Bradenton Police Department is set to enhance its operations with the construction of a new facility, which will replace the existing police headquarters that has been in service since 1998. Chief Melanie Bevan emphasized the pressing need for this upgrade, stating that not only has the department outgrown its current space, but the expansion of the city and its evolving policing needs have necessitated the change.

“We actually have people with a small desk in closets,” remarked Chief Bevan, highlighting the inadequacies of their current setup.

Modern policing now demands advanced technology and equipment that require sufficient space and proper housing conditions. Chief Bevan underscored this by noting, “(Policing now) involves so much more technology, gadgets, gizmos, things that need to be plugged in and housed, and kept in cool conditions.”

According to information shared with ABC7, the new facility will be significantly larger, boasting over 20,000 square feet more than the existing headquarters.

Here are some key facts about the new location:

· Cost: Approximately $35 million, funded through the city’s Capital Development Plan

· Building Size: 50,399 square feet

· Parking Structure: 61,105 square feet (currently under construction, designed for staff and patrol vehicles)

· Technology Integration: Incorporating advanced crime prevention tools, including predictive analytics and specialized units

· Training Facilities: Dedicated training and meeting spaces equipped with state-of-the-art technology to foster ongoing professional development for law enforcement personnel

· Modernized Spaces: Upgraded facilities for Crime Scene Investigations and Property/Evidence management

· Projected Opening: Late 2026

The new facility is also designed to withstand hurricane-force winds, intended to serve as a reliable “harbor” for officers during adverse weather conditions.
