Recently, a couple from Bradenton was among those evacuated from Israel amid the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Robyn and Neil Spirtas had ventured to Israel for volunteer service, expecting to stay briefly.
However, as their trip neared its conclusion, circumstances took a drastic turn.
“We began receiving alerts about seeking shelter,” Neil recounted. “We learned our flight was canceled, along with all other flights in and out of the area.”
Initially, they felt secure as the fighting had subsided.
Once it became clear they could not return home, the couple reached out to numerous contacts and eventually connected with Grey Bull Rescue.
Partnering with Grey Bull provided a pathway home, though the journey was far from straightforward.
They faced a three-day trek involving buses and border checkpoints before finally boarding a flight home.
“When the plane landed and everyone erupted in cheers, and the pilot welcomed us to Tampa, it was overwhelming,” Robyn shared.
“An incredibly emotional experience,” Neil added.
This was not the adventure the couple imagined, yet they remain committed to returning and aiding those in need.
