Bradenton Considers ‘Poultry Regulation,’ Plans Public Hearing

Date:

The City Ordinance currently prohibits keeping poultry on zoned properties, yet there are ongoing resident requests for amendments to these regulations.

The proposed changes to the ordinance would include the following provisions:

  • A maximum of four hens per property, with no roosters allowed.
  • A requirement for a 10-foot setback from a coop or run, along with a six-foot tall opaque fence surrounding the backyard where these facilities are located.
  • Mandatory inspection and permitting processes, which would require annual renewal, along with a procedure for revoking permits in cases of noncompliance.
  • A repeal clause allowing the City Council to discontinue this permit program if deemed necessary for the community’s best interests.

The complete text of the ordinance can be found below:

Additionally, the City plans to conduct a second reading and public hearing on March 26.
