SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — For this week’s ‘Gas Up & Go’, Big Cat Habitat provided an exciting preview of an innovative new animal encounter.
“We are hanging out with the wolf pack,” said Clayton Rosaire, Big Cat Habitat’s Chief Operating Officer, with a laugh.
The wolf pack, featuring four arctic wolves—King, Hulk, Nymeria, and Niblet—has lived together since birth at the facility.
Soon, the habitat will launch the ‘Pack Experience,’ a unique opportunity for visitors of all ages to engage with these magnificent animals.
As we approached the enclosure, the wolves displayed their excitement for visitors. Rosaire advised us to greet them as if they were our best friend’s dogs.
“We want them to feel that everybody is kind of an extension of the pack,” said Rosaire. “When visitors love them, it ensures they’re a friend.”
Upon entering the enclosure, we were warmly welcomed by the pack.
The wolves playfully circled around us and even participated in our filming, engaging in a spirited game of fetch. We captured moments of Nymeria enjoying a refreshing dip on a hot summer day.
Rosaire highlighted the importance of these experiences, particularly for children.
“Little kids who have life experiences with animals are often the ones who become biologists, zoologists, and veterinarians. That’s why these places are so critical,” he explained.
I couldn’t agree more—just imagine how different our paths might have been had my cameraman Ben and I encountered these furry companions earlier in our careers.
Although the ‘Pack Experience’ is set to launch soon, visitors can still enjoy encounters with another arctic wolf, Bolt.
