SARASOTA, FL — A driver involved in a deadly crash in April is now facing charges for driving under the influence, as reported in a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
Kevin Hernando-Alonso, a 21-year-old from Bradenton, was arrested on Monday following a protracted criminal investigation. Authorities have charged him with DUI manslaughter.
The tragic single-vehicle crash occurred in the early morning hours of April 19 on Northgate Boulevard.
According to troopers, Hernando-Alonso was speeding west on Northgate Boulevard, close to Independence Boulevard, around 2:45 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle, veered off the roadway, and collided with a tree.
Tragically, a rear passenger, a 21-year-old man from Bradenton who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, both Hernando-Alonso and the front passenger, another 21-year-old from Bradenton, sustained only minor injuries, as they were wearing their seatbelts.
