Accidental Cause Determined for June House Fire in Bradenton That Claimed 4-Year-Old’s Life

Date:

In a recent sheriff’s office report, Det. Steven Kane from the Bureau of Fire, Arson and Explosives confirmed that the devastating fire on June 14, 2025, was deemed accidental. Kane stated, “Based on the fire scene investigation conducted by myself, I did determine that the June 14, 2025, fire, which damaged a residential structure … was classified as accidental.”

He further explained, “Closer examination revealed that it is most probable that this fire event occurred due to human carelessness as a result of unattended and inadequately controlled candle use, which subsequently ignited combustible materials in and around the area of origin, and a fire evolved from there.”

According to the detailed 35-page report from the sheriff’s office, the boy’s mother, Tara Horsley, age 48, managed to escape the flames but suffered from smoke inhalation and burns covering 25% of her body.

Tragically, the body of 4-year-old Logan Jason Hajimihalis was discovered in a corner of the home, beneath a wicker chair. An autopsy indicated that the preliminary cause of death was due to smoke inhalation and burns.

Investigators noted that furniture and clutter obstructed primary escape routes, and several pets, including a dog, were found dead in the house located on 53rd Avenue West.

Despite multiple attempts by first responders and neighbors to enter the home for a rescue, they were thwarted by the intense heat and smoke. The sheriff’s office report reflected the findings of state investigators, stating, “While a horrific tragedy, there is no evidence of a crime.” The case will remain inactive until the final Medical Examiner’s Report and State Fire Marshall’s Origin and Cause Report are completed.
