A Sarasota man and registered sexual offender has been arrested on two charges related to attempted crimes against a child. On Monday evening, Sarasota Police Department detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division, along with Community Action Team officers, arrested Mark McGoldrick on charges of aggravated stalking of a child under 16, and loitering and prowling by a sexual offender close to children.
McGoldrick is accused of attempting to lure a 13-year-old girl into his vehicle on Sunday evening. The victim managed to record the incident on video before fleeing the area and later identified McGoldrick from a photo lineup.
Through the investigation, detectives learned that McGoldrick had allegedly been stalking the same child on multiple occasions during the past year. The girl reported that he frequently approached her while she was alone at her school bus stop during the school year.
