MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — A new dock and boat lift repair business is thriving on Anna Maria Island. The owner, James Taylor, highlights how his work is addressing a significant gap in the community’s needs, especially following last year’s storm recovery.
With the business booked weeks out, Taylor reflects on his journey. “I’ve been a dock master at a marina here in Cortez for about 15 years,” he states. “After the storms, I noticed that local companies were overwhelmed with repair requests. So, I decided to build my own barge and dock business.”
On a recent day, Taylor and his crew at Taylor Marine LLC were busy removing a boat lift wrecked by Hurricane Milton. The company focuses on preparing for storms and repairing docks afterward.
“We’ve been nonstop since we started, especially post-storm,” he explains. “We’re working every day.”
According to Taylor, nearly all of the docks and boat lifts on Anna Maria Island were damaged, necessitating prompt repairs that take around a week each. “It’s thrilling to help restore my hometown to its full potential,” he says. Rebuilding boats lifts not only strengthens his business but also aids the community in preparing for future storms.
