Video released by the department captures a silver pickup truck stopping in a downtown crosswalk, only to rev its engine and screech away, sending smoke billowing into the intersection. As the truck lurched forward, officers on foot narrowly avoided being hit, while a marked cruiser from the Bradenton Police Department pulled in behind it.

Bradenton man faces multiple charges

According to police reports, officers had just responded to a different incident when they heard the truck’s engine revving. Eyewitnesses noted that Leon disregarded a stop sign at Fourth Avenue, swerving dangerously before regaining control. The area was busy with pedestrians, particularly at the intersection of Manatee Avenue and 12th Street.

A patrol officer who observed the dangerous maneuver followed Leon until he eventually pulled over to the side of the road, where he was detained by the police.

Officials noted that Leon participated in field sobriety tests but declined to take a breathalyzer. He has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, DUI, and reckless driving, as detailed in court records.

Furthermore, additional charges are anticipated due to damage inflicted on the decorative crosswalk, which necessitates specialized restoration. The total cost for repairs remains unknown at this time, according to police.

As per jail records, Leon was booked into the Manatee County Jail on Sunday, but was released later that same day after posting a $15,500 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for October 31, where he will appear before Circuit Judge Frederick Mercurio at the Manatee County Judicial Center.
