Parenting Matters Offers Complimentary Musical Motion Classes in Sarasota and Bradenton — Featuring a Groundbreaking Intergenerational Program

Families on the Suncoast can rejoice this fall with the expansion of Parenting Matters’ beloved Musical Motion program. With added locations, partnerships in Sarasota County, and a brand-new intergenerational class, all offerings are free for families.

This engaging, music-based program not only prepares children for kindergarten but also invites parents and caregivers to join in the fun. The fall session is set to kick off this week, featuring enhancements in Sarasota, Bradenton, and neighboring areas.

New Sarasota Location at Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library

In collaboration with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and the Sarasota County Library System, Musical Motion will now be regularly offered at the Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library. This marks the program’s debut in the Newtown area, providing local families a supportive environment for learning and play.

First-Ever Intergenerational Program with Senior Friendship Centers

Launching in September, Parenting Matters is excited to introduce its inaugural intergenerational Musical Motion class at Senior Friendship Centers in Sarasota. This initiative will bring together young children and seniors for shared, joyful activities that enhance the experience for both generations.

“A personal goal of mine has been to offer Musical Motion with a partner serving older adults. This dream is coming true,” said Kelly Benford, Parenting Matters program director. “Research highlights fantastic benefits for both kids and seniors, and we’re thrilled to witness the connections that will develop.”

Expanded Fall Schedule

The fall schedule includes:

  • Sensory-Sensitive Musical Motion at Early Steps Gulf Central and Southwest Florida in Sarasota, aimed at children with sensory processing differences.
  • Weekly Classes at Betty J. Johnson North Sarasota Library (Newtown area).
  • Intergenerational Pilot Program at Senior Friendship Centers in Sarasota (September).
  • Ongoing programs at established Manatee and Sarasota County locations.

Strengthening Families Across the Suncoast

According to Parenting Matters Executive Director Katie Becker, these enhancements stem from parent feedback collected during the organization’s initial Parent Leadership Gathering earlier this year.

“By expanding into new neighborhoods and creating intergenerational opportunities, we’re fulfilling our mission in innovative ways,” Becker noted. “These partnerships cultivate learning, empathy, and joy across generations.”
