Grieving the passing of a cherished leader

Date:

Jason Stock shows off a sailfish catch in November 2016.

Jason Stock caught this blackfin tuna in 2016. He also modeled for Bealls and appeared on the covers of Florida Sportsman and other magazines.

The fishing community of Anna Maria Island is mourning the loss of Capt. Jason Stock, a beloved charter captain who passed away on Aug. 29.

Stock was more than just a great offshore captain; he was deeply involved in the community, contributing to youth fishing clinics and reef habitat restoration projects.

Starting his charter business with kayak fishing, he progressed to inshore and then offshore fishing, where he thrived. Stock embraced various techniques for targeting fish, including trolling for pelagics and deep-water jigging, always aiming to provide his clients with the best experience on the water.

His infectious personality fostered deep connections with clients, turning captain-client dynamics into lasting friendships. Unfortunately, Stock faced personal storms that he was unable to navigate, ultimately succumbing to life’s challenges.

As we honor Stock’s memory, let us remember that although storms can be overwhelming, they eventually pass.

Heavy hearts

This is a difficult message to share, but we must acknowledge the loss of Capt. Jason Stock.

Many in the community knew and loved Stock. For nearly 20 years, I collaborated with him on various projects – he was uniquely connected to the water.

Stock was dedicated to marine science, having tagged hundreds of fish and contributed invaluable data to research initiatives. He inspired all ages, imparting knowledge about the ocean.

His nonprofit, Full Send Reef Habitat Inc., aimed to give back to the community and create a better future for fishing. Alongside partners, I’m committed to ensuring his vision for new offshore artificial reefs is realized.

Jason was exceptional: an amazing fisherman, a dedicated research partner, and a dear friend. My heart aches for his family—his love for them was boundless.
