NORTH PORT, Fla. (WFLA) — On Sunday, North Port police arrested three women and a child after they allegedly stole hundreds of dollars in merchandise from various stores in a shopping center.
The incident unfolded at the Cocoplum Shopping Center around 5:30 p.m. when police received reports of shoplifting involving four women driving a gray Chevrolet Malibu.
Upon locating the suspects, officers discovered stolen items from multiple stores within the shopping center, as well as from outside retailers, stored inside their vehicle.
Surveillance footage revealed the women collaborating to steal a significant amount of items, totaling several hundred dollars. Additionally, police discovered tools intended to bypass anti-theft devices in the possession of two of the suspects.
The arrested individuals include 48-year-old Tammie Denise Harrell, 52-year-old Dale Wanella Connor, 37-year-old Jessika Denise Bridges, and a juvenile. They face multiple charges, including unlawful possession of anti-shoplifting device countermeasures, criminal conspiracy, felony petit theft, and petit theft.
North Port Police Chief Todd Garrison emphasized the seriousness of such crimes, stating, “Do not bring your organized crime to North Port. Organized retail theft doesn’t just hurt stores; it impacts all of us by driving up costs and threatening the safety of our community. We will continue to take a strong stance to deter this type of crime,” as reported on the police department’s Facebook page.
