SARASOTA, Fla. – A Sarasota man is under investigation after allegedly exposing himself to a family at Lido Beach.
The family reported that the exposure was intentional, with the suspect clearly intending to be seen.
Police are now inquiring if there are additional victims of this alleged incident.
“Unfortunately, they noticed a man nearby who chose to expose himself to this family,” stated Genevieve Judge of the Sarasota Police.
The family claimed that the suspect made eye contact with them and deliberately exposed himself. They reported that he used his phone to aim at his private area, seemingly attempting to record their reaction.

After the incident, the family promptly reported it to the authorities and documented the suspect’s appearance through photographs.
Within 24 hours, police identified the suspect as 29-year-old Daniel Mensch from Sarasota and arrested him the next morning at Lido Beach.
Investigators are now trying to ascertain if Mensch has previous incidents on record.
“We encourage anyone who had interaction with this individual that felt inappropriate or criminal to contact Sarasota police,” added Judge.
What they’re saying:
Regular beachgoer Judy Harper expressed her sorrow regarding the incident. She stated it was quite unusual.
“While I’m saddened by what they went through, I believe this is likely an isolated event. I feel safe here at the beach,” said Harper. “I think there are many people around who would stand up for us if needed.”
Harper noted that one person’s actions won’t deter her from enjoying the beach, asserting her regular attendance.
What’s next:
Mensch has been charged with four counts of indecent exposure and two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior involving a minor. He has posted bail and is scheduled for arraignment on September 26.
According to court records, Mensch initially claimed he had been at a friend’s house smoking marijuana during the incident.
He initially denied being at Lido Beach until presented with photographic evidence. Later, he admitted to being there but claimed to have no recollection of his actions at the beach.
Mensch explained to authorities that due to stress and PTSD, he struggles to remember daily events.
