USF Sarasota-Manatee reveals intentions to construct a new STEM building.

Date:

SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus has unveiled plans for a new STEM academic facility aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for students across all USF campuses.

The initiative follows the expiration of the current lease for laboratory space at Mote Marine Laboratory in May 2025. This proposal garnered unanimous approval from the USF Board of Trustees Finance Committee last month, signifying broad support for the project.

The estimated cost for the construction of this facility is projected to be $6.5 million.

Interim Regional Chancellor Brett E. Kemker expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This project represents a major step forward in our commitment to STEM education and student success. It will eliminate the need for off-campus lab leases, reduce travel burdens for students and faculty, and support the growth of programs such as nursing and other STEM disciplines.”

With construction set to commence in 12 to 18 months, the facility is anticipated to open its doors in the fall of 2027.
