Florida 5-Year-Old Who Was Pulled Into Storm Drain Found 100 Yards Away Has Died, Police Report – Orlando Sentinel

Date:

A tragic incident unfolded in Florida when a 5-year-old girl, Zaria Miller, was swept down a storm drain. After being discovered in a retention area 100 yards away, she sadly passed away, according to authorities.

On August 28, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reported that the child had died at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, following several days in critical condition.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on August 24 while Zaria was playing outside in Sarasota. A combination of flooding from recent rainfall and a water main break created a powerful current that swept the young girl into the storm drain, deputies explained.

Zaria was ultimately located in a wooded retention area across from Sarasota Christian Academy and was immediately transported to a hospital.

As noted in a GoFundMe campaign, the girl was playing with her brothers at the time of the accident.
