SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man has been arrested in Tennessee linked to a capital sexual battery case from 2006 in Sarasota. The suspect, Eleazar Briones-Vega, 50, was apprehended after authorities were alerted by a victim who reported being inappropriately touched over a three-year period starting when she was just 10 years old. This traumatic experience prompted the victim to leave Florida, leading to a long-term investigation.
In collaboration with various law enforcement agencies, including the Sarasota Police Department, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Florida-Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the Eastern Tennessee Smoky Mountains Task Force, Briones-Vega was arrested without incident in White Pines, Tennessee. He is currently held at the Jefferson County Detention Center as he awaits extradition back to Florida.
