A tragic incident occurred in Sarasota on Sunday afternoon when a small child was swept into a drainage system following a water main break. According to authorities, the child was carried through the drain for approximately 100 yards.

This distressing event took place at 5433 Bahia Vista Street around 6:15 p.m., as WFLA reported, citing information from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and the Sarasota County Fire Department.

The child was playing near a culvert when the strong flow of water pulled them into the drainage system.

Emergency responders from the fire department quickly arrived on the scene and transported the child to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

As of now, the child’s condition remains undisclosed.
