BEAN POINT, Fla. — Court filings reveal that Douglas Naeher is facing charges for allegedly attempting to murder his wife, Stephanie, during a boating excursion off the coast of Bean Point, Florida. The couple, who have been married for three years and together for six, embarked on a trip that quickly escalated into violence. Naeher reportedly assaulted Stephanie, hitting and kicking her, and even attempted to throw her overboard. When Stephanie tried to seek help, Naeher confiscated her phone and tossed it into the ocean.

Stephanie recounted experiencing a series of brutal attacks, including being punched, stomped on, and ultimately losing consciousness after being knocked down. In a desperate bid to survive, she pretended to be dead, according to court records. Naeher then allegedly strangled her while uttering threats to kill her. As another boat approached, he released her and fled the scene, leaving her in open water. He later returned, dragged her by the hair, and assaulted her again as she attempted to regain her footing on the boat. Eventually, Stephanie managed to escape and contacted the authorities. Surveillance footage corroborated various elements of her account, yet Naeher’s whereabouts remained unclear.

“You know, it might just be time we take a look if HOAs are really even necessary.
Maybe we should just do away with homeowner associations as a whole.”

South Florida lawmaker Rep. Juan Carlos Porras (R-Miami) is considering whether to abolish homeowners associations entirely, as growing discontent among Floridians about rising fees, expensive lawsuits, and even arrests related to HOA disputes has come to light. He has expressed intentions to introduce legislation in the upcoming session aimed at eliminating HOAs statewide.
