In a collaborative effort, detectives partnered with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to tackle a surge in criminal activities.
Over a span of nine months, from August 2024 to June 2025, police conducted undercover operations that led to the identification of 42 suspects linked to more than 180 felony crimes.
To date, 39 of the 42 suspects have been apprehended, with law enforcement still actively pursuing the remaining three.
Throughout the operation, undercover detectives confiscated 43 firearms, 15 of which were reported stolen, with 10 weapons linked to various shootings in Sarasota, St. Petersburg, and Tampa, according to Police Chief Troche.
The investigation continues as authorities work to establish connections between these firearms and specific incidents of gun violence.
In addition to firearms, the department seized significant quantities of drugs, including over 44 pounds of marijuana, 1.27 pounds of cocaine, and 6.6 pounds of THC wax.
Chief Troche had a stern warning for those considering criminal activity in the Sarasota area.
“Don’t do it here. We have operations running 24/7, and if you think you’re selling to someone on the street, there’s a good chance you’re selling to us,” Chief Troche stated.
