Small Aircraft Crash ignites Brush Fire near Myakka City

MYAKKA CITY, Fla. — Manatee County Sheriff’s deputies are currently investigating a small plane crash that occurred at Myakka Head Airport.

The incident took place shortly after 10 a.m. at the airport located at 42650 State Road 64 East. A single-engine plane veered off course and crashed into nearby trees shortly after takeoff.

Fortunately, all three individuals on board, including pilot Christopher Mischo, 35, co-pilot Timothy Vasiloff, also 35, and passenger Alyssa Vasiloff, 34, escaped serious injuries.

In addition to the crash, a brush fire ignited but has been quickly brought under control by emergency responders, according to deputies. The incident has prompted the notification of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which will carry out a formal investigation into the crash.
