DeSantis Announces Manatee County as Next in Line for Florida’s DOGE Audit

BRADENTON, Fla. – Florida’s Department of Government Efficiency, as directed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, will perform an audit of the Manatee County government.

During a news conference in Bradenton, both DeSantis and Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia expressed concerns regarding the county’s spending in light of rising tax revenues and the accumulation of reserves.

This audit follows the recent announcement of similar investigations in Gainesville and Broward County, facilitated by the Department of Government Efficiency.

Both officials highlighted the issue of affordability, noting that skyrocketing property values in Florida have resulted in increased property tax assessments.

Ingoglia mentioned that the audit is part of a broader initiative aimed at pushing for property tax reform, with aspirations to eventually eliminate homesteaded property taxes.

“Our ultimate goal is to reform property taxes, potentially abolishing them altogether,” Ingoglia stated, questioning the true ownership of homes under current tax structures.
