VENICE, Fla. — The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is currently investigating a deputy-involved shooting in Venice. On August 13, just before 11 a.m., deputies from the Fugitive Apprehension Unit and patrol arrived at a residence on Golf Club Lane to serve an active warrant.
Upon confirmation that 32-year-old Anthony Bottoni was inside, deputies instructed him to exit the premises. When he refused, they forced entry into the house. Officials report that Bottoni armed himself with a firearm, prompting deputies to retreat to the backyard and request assistance from the SWAT team and the Hostage Negotiation Team.
Shortly thereafter, Bottoni exited with the firearm. When deputies ordered him to drop the weapon, he did not comply. Consequently, a deputy deployed a Taser, which proved ineffective in neutralizing the threat. Subsequently, Bottoni allegedly pointed his firearm at the deputies, leading them to respond with deadly force.
Bottoni was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities confirmed that there were no other injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
“You know, it might just be time we take a look if HOAs are really even necessary.
Maybe we should just do away with homeowner associations as a whole.”
Rep. Juan Carlos Porras (R-Miami) suggests that it may be time to abolish homeowner associations (HOAs), as many Floridians voice concerns over rising fees and legal issues arising from HOA disputes. He is considering filing legislation to eliminate HOAs statewide in the upcoming session.
